and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
Now, please read John 8 to better grasp the context of this verse.
Here, though, is a thumbnail sketch:
A woman was caught in adultery and the religious leaders presumed they knew what was to be done to her according to what they knew of God’s truth: namely kill her.
Jesus, though, displayed God’s truth in three ways:
- He gave this woman’s accusers time to examine their own lives in light of their own legalistic upholding of God’s truth;
- He did not condemn the woman; and
- He told her not to sin again.
Friends, declaring Truth needs to be done in love which necessitates respecting others by way of giving them the opportunity to decide how they want to respond to the Truth.
This…will be freeing for you because you are simply declaring God’s truth and not your trying to defend your own opinion
And, it will be freeing towards others as it will open the way to further dialogue on the matter at hand
