I will look at Matthew 10:37 to talk about the importance of putting Jesus first.
The text reads:
He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
This is a hard word, but a necessary one because if Jesus Christ is not first in our lives as Christian, compromising Christian values will be inevitable.
For example, there have been Christian companies that have caved into pressure to jettison their values in order to be more inclusive.
And, it is easy to do. For when society relentlessly equates Christian opposition to moral confusion with hatred, one can fold under pressure.
Instead we must remember that loving others as a Christian does not necessitate accepting their values. We, simply, must point people -and ourselves- back to God’s Word to see how Jesus interacted with others who had differing views on life.
There was no hatred there. Just love.
So let’s consider what kinds of pressure would bring us to a point of compromising our faith and ask God to help us.
