The Fear of the Lord

Good Morning, my friends.  This is Michael De Rosa, and the Scripture today is Proverbs 9:10:  NASB)

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

A recent conflict has brought me closer to a healthier understanding of Fearing the Lord.

Let me begin telling you what I am discovering in all this.

Maybe it will help you.

Firstly, while I intellectually understand that this word fear conveys a deep reverence, I need to have a stronger connection between what the Bible means by this word and how I live.

The Hebrew word –and its derivatives- from which FEAR is translated literally means “dread, terribleness, terror”.  And that type of relationship with the Lord cuts real deep into my view of all that I  know about His love.

And yet, unless I come to the place where I can actually live in the fear of the Lord, I think I will be selling my faith short by way of wanting to believe in a God that I can more easily accept.

I will be talking more about this next week, and I would like to hear what you think.

In case you miss me on the radio, you can follow me right here on our church website as I will be uploading these sermonettes each week.

Blessings on your Journey!

-Michael
