1 Timothy 2:1-4

First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

God’s word implores us to pray for our leaders regardless of who we voted for so that our leaders will know how to and desire to rule justly.

God is not affiliated with any political party; he does not show partialty but desires one thing:  that we know Him and His immense love for us which has been demonstrated towards us in Christ.

So, w   hen we are called to pray for our leaders, we are called to lay aside our ill will towards the leader, or, even our glowing support for him.  Instead, we are called to bring our leaders before a Holy and Just God so that the leader would have opportunity to know His need for God’s wisdom as he comes to the place of understanding that his own efforts to fix things is woefully lacking.

…and God is the only one that can bring about that awareness and that change.
