Today I want to talk about humility and my text will be Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ, because he gives me strength.
This verse is not implying that we are in the driver’s seat of our life, and just need to pray to let God know what you think is the right thing to do. In other words, this verse does not give us grounds to decide our own destinies by thinking that if we only pray hard enough and long enough we will be able to do such and such a thing.
I have seen one too many people become disoriented in their prayers by way of focusing so much on what they consider would be a happy or productive or reasonable solution to their heart felt prayer instead of, firstly, adopting an inquisitively humble attitude of asking God what He thinks of the current situation.
For you see, this “doing all things through Christ” must not be dislodged from Paul’s earlier statement in this book about having the mind of Christ, where we learn the importance of letting go of what we think is best in order to be grasped by the desire to let God direct the course of our life.
Then, all things CAN and Will be done.
